Mountains of the Moon University (MMU) is Uganda’s first and only community-based rural university, founded in 2005 whose ownership is expressed through various representative communities which include the districts, municipalities, religious communities and the business communities of the Rwenzori region. The University has five Schools: Business and Management Studies, Agricultural Sciences, Education, ICT, and Public Health. Currently 1,600 students are attending different Master, Bachelor, Diploma and Certificate courses. MMU is based in Fort Portal, in Western Uganda close to the border with the DRC. Moreover, MMU’s campus is located beautifully on the slopes of a crater overlooking Lake Saaka and the 5,109m high Rwenzori Mountains.
The Business School attracts the majority of students – about 900 and is comprised of three departments, namely Business Management, Public Administration, and Banking and Microfinance offering MA, BA, Diploma and Certificate graduation in their various disciplines.
MMU also has a library; however relevant academic literature either outdated or scarce and doesn’t meet the requirements of the current courses taught. In particular, MMU library would appreciate books in the following disciplines: Economic history, African history, economics, development economics, entrepreneurship, marketing, business management, agriculture, banking, microfinance, gender and development. In other words, the University would appreciate contributions to enrich the quality of its literature and therefore its teaching and research opportunities in the future.
